NoteNest ("we," "our," or "us") operates the NoteNest mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app.
Information We Collect
Account Information
- Name and email address (when you create an account via Apple, Google, or email sign-up)
- Authentication credentials managed by Firebase Authentication
Content You Create
- Notes, documents, and study materials
- Drawings, diagrams, and handwritten content
- AI Tutor conversation history
- Uploaded files (PDFs, images, documents)
Onboarding and Preferences
- Study preferences (study style, time preference, semester goals)
- Quiz answers (study challenges, weekly study hours, GPA goal)
- School and class selections
Device and Usage Data
- Device model, operating system version, and app version
- App usage patterns and feature engagement
- Crash reports and error logs
- Push notification tokens
Payment Information
- We do not collect or store credit card numbers or payment details
- All payments are processed by Apple through your Apple ID
- We use RevenueCat to manage subscription entitlements and purchase validation
How We Use Your Information
- Provide and improve the NoteNest app experience
- Process your notes with AI to generate summaries, explanations, diagrams, and study guides
- Personalize your study recommendations based on your preferences and goals
- Send push notifications (study reminders, app updates) when enabled
- Manage your subscription and premium features
- Diagnose technical issues and improve app stability
- Analyze usage patterns to improve features (aggregated, not individual)
AI Processing
Your notes and documents may be processed by AI to provide:
- Smart summaries and concept breakdowns
- Auto-generated diagrams and flowcharts
- AI Tutor responses and exam prep materials
- Study plans and review schedules
AI processing occurs via our secure backend hosted on Microsoft Azure. We do not use your content to train AI models. Your notes remain yours.

We use the following third-party services to operate and improve NoteNest:

Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review their policies.
Data Storage and Security
- Your notes are stored locally on your device using an encrypted SQLite database
- Account data is managed by Firebase Authentication (Google Cloud infrastructure)
- AI processing data is transmitted via encrypted HTTPS connections
- We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your data
Data Retention
- Account data: Retained while your account is active. Deleted upon account deletion request.
- Notes and content: Stored locally on your device. Removing the app deletes local data.
- Analytics data: Retained in aggregated form. Individual event data is retained per each service's policy (typically 12-24 months).
- Crash reports: Retained for 90 days.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and associated data
- Export your data
- Opt out of marketing communications
- Disable analytics (by contacting us)

Children's Privacy
NoteNest is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
